This week, I’m browsing around for a steampunk novel. Off the top of my head, the closest novel I’ve read thus far that’s even remotely steampunk related is The Invention of Hugo Cabret, which contains clocks and automans.
I’m also anticipating the release of Cherie Priest’s Boneshaker.
In the interest of dipping my toe into a new sub-genre, I’m trying to compile a steampunk reading list. Lend me your suggestions.

You may want to try The Difference Engine, one of the first in that genre

I’m new to the subgenre also, but one I’ve read is The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore, which, everyone tells me, is nothing like the movie. I really love the steampunk feel, though, so I’ll be back to peek at your reading list.

I just Google searched ’steampunk blog reading challenge’ and came up with this entry. I too am looking for reading suggestions (and possibly a challenge to get all that reading DONE and not just vaguely thought about). One title I can offer is Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan, which is coming out in October. Apparently Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere counts too…
